MIM Technology Is Increasingly Used In The Mobilephone Industry Manufacturing

As the market demands lighter, slimmer, and more aesthetically appealing devices, manufacturers are turning to advanced technologies to reduce phone dimensions. Consequently, many companies are exploring metal injection molding (MIM) techniques for producing mobile phone components.

At a recent luncheon, the president of a prominent phone brand stated, “Our first metal phone was constructed using aluminum, and we found that to meet all requirements, metal injection molding was the best—and in many cases, the only—option.”

Today, several components in mobile phones are manufactured using metal injection molding, such as tungsten weights for vibration balance and high-strength steel for hinges. The most significant applications of MIM in mobile phones include the production of sliders, barrels, and hinges. According to the company president, “The advantages of metal injection molding and the ongoing advancements in this technology will expand its use in mobile phone manufacturing. Previously, the industry lacked a comprehensive understanding of MIM’s potential.”

Currently, metal injection molding is employed to produce complex structural and functional components in mobile phones, leveraging the technology’s benefits to meet the increasing demands for smaller device sizes and higher technical specifications and product quality.
